Soul Baraitser (b. 2001) creates work with a range of materials, including handmade papers and pastels, textile surfaces, and, more recently, charcoal drawings and etchings. Baraitser often works on a large scale, engaging with the entire surface of the piece. Materiality is a core foundation, which lets images emerge from tactile surfaces. Exploring themes of human interaction—the blurriness of communication, and the tension between violence and care—Baraitser examines how we situate ourselves within and between these ideas.
