Elizabeth McCartenis of Anglo/Portuguese descent. She is a painter with a strong drawing practice. Elizabeth is closely concerned with using domestic environments as a basis for her practice and her works are rooted observation, imagination and memory. Elizabeth studied painting at the University of Brighton before completing The Drawing Year at The Royal Drawing School in 2013. Elizabeth won the Young Artist Award for her painting, ‘The Boboli Gardens’ in the Sunday Times Watercolour competition and has been awarded residencies in Italy, Scotland and Jamaica.
